Response 10-U.S. Lawmakers

The perfect way to open a dialogue is with common interests. As all the American politicians said that this is a great way to improve relations. Afghanistan is currently a breeding ground for terrorists and is a danger to Iran and the U.S. This conference will address the problem and hopefully get a global action. Countries that can't pledge soldiers could maybe pledge support to keeping weapons out of terrorist hands.

US Lawmakers, Experts Welcome Overtures to Iran

The U.S. is looking to invite Iran to an international conference on Afghanistan, which will be held on March 31. Hilary Clinton proposed the high-level conference, with representatives from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and NATO countries also invited.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said "We hope, if they decide to come, that they will bring constructive solutions and ideas in working with the international community to address the challenges that are involved in Afghanistan."

"I think a process is already underway. First of all, it is wise to meet on Afghanistan. And secondly, it is wise to be inclusive," said Senator John Kerry. Other Congressmen agreed.

The U.S. anticipates sending an additional 17,000 troops to Afghanistan. A stable Afghanistan is interest of both Iran and the U.S. The Iran does not want to see a resurgence of the Taliban, and has received over 2,000,000 Afghan refuges in the last few decades.

A common interest between the two countries could open a dialogue that could lead to discussion of Iran's nuclear program.
