Minister Livni really establised what the goals for Israel were in the offensive. The ones mentioned in the article were: 1)Stopping the violence of Hamas 2)Eradicating Hamas.
the only way to stop the violence is to stop the ability of Hamas to do violence. That means stopping their weapons. Weapons have been smuggled in from Egypt, and the Egyptian goverment is currently working with Israel to stop that. th problem is that Hamas's weapons have become more soffisticated, they used to be builind their missles in the Gaza Strip. But now, Hamas is getting profetionally made weapons from Iran, and there is no diplomatic way to stop that.
When Israelis vacated the Gaza Strip (a while ago, this wasn't a recent endever (the whole point of that was to give Palestinians their own area)) Hamas saw that as a victory for terrorism, and hamas will continue to see their own existence as a victory for Hamas and terrorism.

'We Will Act Again'
This is an interview with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livini. So all of these are quotes or paraphrasing.
Does not approve of the term cease fire, that sounds to much like an agreement between two legitimate sides. Hamas is not a legitimate party, but a terrorist. A goal of this offensive was to prove that terrorists couldn't pick on Israel. Israel wants Hamas to no longer exist, for as long as they exist that will be considered a victory for Hamas.
A goal of the offensive was to disarm Hamas. The only way to continue that is to stop smuggling of goods into the Gaza Strip, hopefully this will be with the help of Egypt. But Hamas is also getting weapons from Iran.
Because Hamas controls the Gaza Strip that will block Palestinians from getting thier own country.
"This is no longer the Israeli-Palestinian or the Jewish-Arab conflict, but it is a conflict between moderates and extremists. This is the way the region is now divided."
