global choice
This topic is undoubtedly going to be changing constantly, and there must be lots of information on it, so I think it is a good choice. It will also give more information to people that otherwise might not know what is going on- all people (I hope) know the US is at war in the Middle East, but they may not know the details, or exactly why we engaged and why we're still there. There would be nearly endless sources to look at for information- the UN, the department of state, WTO, NGO, Reuters. You could certainly talk to Mr. Steele-maley- this is exactly what world studies is currently studying. Also, you could give insight into what you think would help resolve the conflict, or what political systems would be successful. You could also look at the amount of influence the US has had upon the Middle East since its engagement in the region.
Some Ideas...
I am surprised that you did not find enough material about the Iraq War itself. That might be because there is so much more information about Bush's policies and the politics about the war, particularly with the election going on.
I think the economy is a great topic but it could be narrowed to just the possible economic recession that we are now facing. This is a great topic and it comes at a very interesting time. It is important how the reccession effects the average person but I think the big picture of the economy and how things are connected is interesting too.
Middle Eastern politics is a quickly changing subject and there will always be lots to write about. I think this might be too broad a subject. Do you think you might be able to narrow it down to relationships between two or three countries, political parties or organizations? It might also be interesting to hear all the opposing viewpoints on the controversies of the Middle East.

Comments from Everett
This is an interesting topic that is coming from a viewpoint that doesn't get much run in the United States media. I can say honestly that I have little knowledge regarding the political climate in the middle east at this point in time, and I am probably not the only one that would say that. You have seemed to make a decision on your topic, so good luck and have fun. I look forward to reading more about this topic later on in the year as it develops.

I agree that energy conservation is the best out of your three. Most everyone today is into alternative fuels and ways to help the environment, and that probably wont change in the next 6 months. Darfur is definitely something that should be discussed and be made aware of, but it would be real downer to research genocide for 6 months. Your third topic, though interesting, wouldn't be a very reliable subject.
